Iker Sanchez Silva
Born in Irún (Basque Country, Spain), Iker Sánchez Silva combines conducting with visual art. In his most creative work, he draws on both disciplines, building bridges between shared parameters such as rhythm, harmony, color, and the balance between the main themes.
In the field of visual arts, Iker studied Fine Arts at the University of Granada and at the School of Arts in Vitoria-Gasteiz, and furthered his training through drawing and painting workshops in Bilbao and Berlin.
In 2017, he completed a four-month artist residency at the Greenhouse in Berlin. Likewise, this past July he was artist-in-residence at The Luminary, an artist residency linked to the Andy Warhol Foundation located in St. Louis, Missouri.
He has held solo exhibitions in St. Louis (USA), Almería, Rekalde, Granada, San Sebastián, Vitoria-Gasteiz, and Irún, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions. He currently works in his studio-gallery in San Sebastián. His work is also represented by La Central Art Gallery (San Sebastián), Untitled Fine Arts (St. Louis, Missouri, USA), and La Forêt D’Acacias (Hendaye, France).
His upcoming exhibitions include shows at the School of Arts in Vitoria-Gasteiz, La Central Art Gallery (San Sebastián), Untitled Fine Arts Gallery (St. Louis, Missouri, USA), Les Frères Ibarboure, Bidart (France), and Estudio-Galería Joan Llaneras (Mallorca).
As a musician, he studied at the conservatories of San Sebastián, Bordeaux, and Munich. He has conducted a wide range of orchestras across Europe, including the Basque National Orchestra, Bilbao Symphony, Catalonia National, Asturias Symphony, Tenerife, Oporto, Bayonne-Côte Basque, City of Pamplona, National Orchestra of Montenegro, Concentus Alius Berlin, Oviedo Filarmonía, and the Humboldt University Orchestra of Berlin. He currently serves as the musical and artistic director of BilbaoSinfonietta and as musical director of the opera company Opus Lírica.
